A message from Shaun Wright-Phillips

The last few months have been an extremely exciting time for me working closely with MiMentor. Loads of great content is available on the platform during what has been a crucial period for football coaches, during lockdown. And there’s even more new courses soon to be released.

Even through the peak of lockdown, we managed to stay busy, with all our Mentors – Sarah McQuade, Grant Downey, Phillipa McGregor and Jennie Carter – coming together via zoom calls for regular hour-long webinars, hosted by Rob Pacey. You can see them all for FREE here: MiMentor webinars.

I was lucky enough to join the mentors for a special live webinar we called ‘Through the Lens of a Player webinar’  in June in which we discussed pre-season from an ex-players perspective.

We discussed some of the best ways of communicating with players, the importance of making players feel valued, and we even shed light on my time under José Mourinho, and his expert player-manager relationship skills.

I always remember a saying that José used when describing football “Football is a human science”. Treating players as a human first is exactly what the mentors and I discussed throughout webinar and is a critical component of the courses on the MiMentor platform.

I’ve also got some exclusive news for you, with a brand new course being launched in the next few weeks on Effective Planning and Preparation from UEFA Pro Licence coach and Mentor Ben Garner. The course will cover everything you need as a coach for returning to play and ensuring sessions are prepared in the right way for your players, making your job easier. The course even gives you a detailed session plan that you can download and use with your teams and players.

One of my favourite parts of course and advice that I think is vital for coaches is the ability to utilise the vast amount of information out there on sessions and adapting this to make it relevant to your teams and your players. The saying ‘be a thief, not a fraud’ by Ben is so true and something I will always remember.
