Shaun Wright-Phillips on Elite Coaching

As a player who experienced coaching of the highest level, I know what a difference elite level knowledge can make, which is why I and the rest of MiMentor are so excited to be able to share our Conditioning for Football  course with the rest of you.

Mark Armitage

The course is created by Nick Harvey and Mark Armitage. Nick has over two decades of experience in the game, acting as a fitness coach for Southampton’s famed academy before moving to the first team, and even played a role in the England U17’s World Cup victory.

Co-creator Mark has spent over 12 years in professional football working as a strength and conditioning coach, coaching all ages whether it be foundation players at Norwich, the under 23’s at Arsenal or the Huddersfield Town first team.

So, as you can see from their wealth and wide range of experience, they have knowledge that can suit all age groups and a range of abilities.

The course is broken down into six modules which you can purchase individually for £20 each, or grab the whole course for £90:

Structure and philosophies, Stamina, Strength, Stopping, Starting, Sprinting.

This Conditioning for football course is all about getting your team in tip-top condition in ways specifically tailored to the demands of football and will help you bring together the tactical and technical work on the pitch.

You will know from watching the Through the Lens of a Player webinar that I’m a strong advocate of involving the ball in training, even with fitness exercises and pre-season. This course focuses on integrating the ball in sessions and training how you want to play, which is perfect!

The course will also give you three hours of CPD, which you can submit to the FA to certify for your coaching licence.

For a taster of what you can expect from the Conditioning for Football course without parting ways with any cash, we currently have a FREE lesson from the course available on our portal website: Maximising Intensity.

This free lesson looks at the physical demands of football and how the nature of the modern game requires coaches to ensure players can meet the intensity requirements of the game.

The lesson doesn’t just give you the theory and exercises, but even analyses player data from the Premier League and Championship regarding how the demands and periods of high intensity have increased over time.

A piece written by Simon Austin (Training Ground Guru) showed the evolvement of high intensity sprints within the top 5 European leagues (see below). It shows the Premier League topping the table with the demands on the players significantly greater for the average number of high intensity sprints but also the average peak sprint velocity. Showing how important is to work on both repeated sprint ability and peak sprint velocity but ensuring this in done in a controlled and safe environment to avoid injury.

And if that’s not enough completely FREE content for you, we also have a free to download Preseason guide PDF: Planning an Integrated Preseason Programme

This how-to guide is all about creating a pre-season plan with your end goal in mind, outlining your ultimate aims and objectives from minute one and training how you want to play.

Going forwards, we’ll still be making webinars monthly, so keep your eyes peeled for those, and get stuck into all the great content on offer via the MiMentor portal in time for the new season!
